Six Sigma
Concept
Definition
A data-driven methodology for reducing defects and variation in processes.
Six Sigma is a quality methodology developed at Motorola and popularized by GE. It uses statistical methods to reduce process variation and defects to near-zero levels (3.4 defects per million opportunities). PIPS draws on Six Sigma's emphasis on data and measurement but does not require the statistical expertise or certification structure. PIPS is designed to be accessible to teams without specialized training.
