Force Field Analysis
Definition
A tool that maps the forces driving change against the forces resisting it.
Force Field Analysis (developed by Kurt Lewin) is a Step 2 (Analyze) tool that identifies driving forces (pushing toward the desired change) and restraining forces (resisting the change). Each force is rated on a 1-5 scale. The analysis reveals where to focus: strengthen drivers, weaken resistors, or both. It is especially valuable when the solution is known but adoption is the challenge.
