Accountability
ConceptStep 4: Select & Plan
Definition
The obligation of an individual or team to own the outcome of a task or decision.
In PIPS, accountability is operationalized through the RACI Chart, where exactly one person is designated Accountable (A) for each task — meaning they own the outcome regardless of who does the work. Clear accountability eliminates the "I thought someone else was handling it" failure mode that undermines implementation. Without accountability, implementation plans become wish lists.
