Step 3BrainstormingBrainwriting
Step 3: Generate. Brainstorming and brainwriting techniques that produce innovative solutions by deferring judgment and maximizing participation.
Step 3 is where the "Expand Then Contract" principle is most visible. Before you can pick the best solution, you need many solutions to choose from. The more ideas you generate, the higher the chance of finding something truly innovative.
The ground rules are simple: no criticism, quantity matters, build on others' ideas, and wild ideas are welcome. Judgment is deferred until Step 4.
